About Peter

Peter Mahoney joined HarbourVest in 2023 as a managing director and the Head of Investment Accounting. He is responsible for leading the firm’s fund and investment accounting operations, managing a multi-functional team of more than 100 professionals along with leading the Firm’s Valuation and Audit Committees. Peter’s team also works closely with external auditors and the investment teams to ensure compliance with relevant account practices and oversees the completion of the SOC 1.

Prior to joining the Firm, Peter was a principal and fund controller at Vanguard and served as the Head of Global Fund Accounting. Peter comes with 25 years of experience in strategic leadership within fund services and has deep expertise in leading large global organizations within middle and back-office functions across a wide variety of products and locations. He has a strong track record of delivering quality and efficiency through forward-thinking digital innovation and process optimization, delivering transformative technology projects leveraging cutting-edge financial products across complex operational and regulatory environments.

Peter received an MBA in Administration from St. Joseph’s University and a BS in Finance from Bloomberg University.

Continuation solutions encompass a host of transaction types in which a GP secures interim liquidity and/or additional primary capital for their LPs in a strongly performing asset, or set of assets, that the GP will continue to own and control. Specifically, they include continuation funds, new funds created by GPs for the purpose of acquiring the asset(s) that continue to be managed by the same GP and capitalized by one or several secondary buyers, or equity recapitalizations involving a direct equity or structured equity investment into a portfolio company. These transactions can also include a parallel investment from the GP’s latest fund into that same pool of assets (a “cross-fund trade”).
