HarbourVest Partners, LLC, is currently seeking candidates for 2 to 3 year pre-MBA Associate positions in its Direct Co-Investment Group in Boston. The Direct Investment Group co-invests in buyout transactions alongside established fund managers and participates in growth equity and mezzanine investments. The Associate, Direct Co-Investment responsibilities will include identifying and evaluating new private equity investment opportunities. He/she will meet with companies that are raising capital as well as fund managers (Venture Capital, Growth Equity, and LBO firms) who are active in the market to seek out companies with strong business models. The Associate will perform detailed due diligence including meeting with management, studying industry trends, reviewing financial results, and conducting customer reference calls.  He/she will also generate extensive financial models to illustrate the potential returns of an investment, and will be a critical contributor to the valuation and structuring decisions. HarbourVest makes its investment decisions in a team-oriented fashion, so candidates must be able to effectively communicate the merits of an investment to other team members and be able to answer their questions.  Lastly, the Associate will be responsible for monitoring approximately 10 to 15 portfolio investments and working with senior members of the team on post-investment portfolio company activities. HarbourVest is currently investing out of its fourth dedicated direct fund and has nearly $5 billion of actively investing direct capital today.

Additional skills must include exceptional quantitative skills, ranking near the top of your class, the ability to multi-task with little supervision, and superb written and oral communication skills for presenting an investment thesis to a group.

Experience

2-3 years of top-tier investment banking or consulting experience; strong academic background (both undergraduate school and GPA)
