Principal, Direct Co-Investments



Job Description

The Principal, Direct Co-Investments’ responsibilities will primarily include identifying and evaluating equity and mezzanine investment opportunities. In addition, the Principal will seek out companies with strong business models as well as meet with companies that are raising capital. Additional responsibilities include meeting with private equity managers that HarbourVest has relationships with to raise awareness of HarbourVest’s direct co-investment practice, discussing market trends and portfolio company performance, and sourcing new investment opportunities. When evaluating investment opportunities, the Principal will perform detailed diligence – meeting with management, reviewing financial models, conducting customer reference calls, and conducting industry research. He/she will also work with Vice Presidents and Associates to generate financial models to illustrate the potential returns of an investment opportunity as well as be a critical contributor to valuing and structuring decisions. HarbourVest makes its investment decisions in a team-oriented fashion, the Principal must be able to communicate the merits of an investment opportunity to the other team members and answer their questions. In deals where HarbourVest assumes a board seat, he/she will be responsible for actively engaging with the management team and other investors on a regular basis as a post-investment board representative.

As a senior member of the Direct Co-Investment team, responsibilities may also include non-investment functions such as fundraising, client service, and new business initiatives to help build the firm. Non-investment functions may include interactions with limited partners including marketing, managing information requests, and providing updates; leading the recruitment and management of Vice Presidents, Associates, and Administrative Assistants; and representation on internal committees. Additional skills should include financial analysis and legal documentation. Management of staff will include Vice Presidents and Associates.


MBA, or equivalent in experience


5-10 years of investment experience
