Vice President, Primary



Job Description

The principle function of the Vice President, Primary includes investment analysis, investment recommendation, investment monitoring, and fund reporting. Responsibilities also include sourcing, evaluating, and performing due diligence on primary partnership investments. When evaluating investment opportunities, the Vice President will perform detailed diligence – meeting with fund manager General Partners, performing analysis on their portfolio companies, benchmarking their performance against peers, conducting reference calls, and industry research. He/she will also work with Associates to manage the execution of the due diligence process and investment memo writing.

HarbourVest makes its investment decisions in a team-oriented fashion, the Vice President must be able to communicate the merits of an investment opportunity to other team members and to the Investment Committee. As a senior member of the Primary team, responsibilities may also include non-investment functions including fundraising, client service, and new business initiatives to  build the firm. Sample non-investment functions include: marketing to, managing information requests from, and providing updates to limited partners; leading the recruitment of Associates; and representation on internal committees.

Additional skills required include proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).


BS/BA, MBA or equivalent experience
