Joel Hwang joined HarbourVest in 2008 and focuses on originating, evaluating, and executing growth equity, buyout, and mezzanine investments in operating companies. Joel serves as a board member at Ministry Brands and FiveStars Loyalty and is a board observer at Appriss. He has been involved with several of the Firm’s other investments including Intelex, SolarWinds, TeamViewer, Acrisure, Alliant, Polyconcept, and Preston Hollow. Joel has also played a key role in a number of secondary investments including the acquisition of a direct portfolio held by Arcapita Inc. and the spin-out of Tenaya Capital, the venture capital business of Lehman Brothers.
In addition to his time at HarbourVest, Joel spent two years as an investment banking analyst in Citigroup’s Global Technology Group, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions and equity and debt financings for technology services and software companies. His prior experience also includes positions with Sterling Partners and Cisco Systems.
Joel received a BA (magna cum laude) in Economics from Dartmouth College in 2006 and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2013.
