About Sanjiv

Sanjiv Shah is a member of the primary investment team at HarbourVest, and is focused on investing with emerging and/or diverse managers, as well as private equity firms targeting the lower-middle market.

Sanjiv joined HarbourVest in 2016 as part of its acquisition of the BAML Capital Access Funds business, which he co-founded in 2002.  He joined Bank of America in 1994 and was instrumental in growing its portfolio of community development equity-related investments, including the formation of the group’s fund-of-funds investment programs.  These programs were focused on investing with underrepresented managers and in underserved markets.  He is a founding member of HarbourVest’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council and is a board co-chair of The Association of Asian-American Investment Managers.  Sanjiv serves on the limited partner advisory boards for a wide range of private equity funds and is a frequent speaker at industry events.

He received a BS in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.  Sanjiv is a Registered Certified Public Accountant in the state of Illinois.

Continuation solutions encompass a host of transaction types in which a GP secures interim liquidity and/or additional primary capital for their LPs in a strongly performing asset, or set of assets, that the GP will continue to own and control. Specifically, they include continuation funds, new funds created by GPs for the purpose of acquiring the asset(s) that continue to be managed by the same GP and capitalized by one or several secondary buyers, or equity recapitalizations involving a direct equity or structured equity investment into a portfolio company. These transactions can also include a parallel investment from the GP’s latest fund into that same pool of assets (a “cross-fund trade”).
