Market Commentary: The Global Economy Remains Challenged
With more than a few challenges on the horizon – including the slowdown in emerging market economies, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, and the shaky economic foundations of Europe and Japan – the U.S. Federal Reserve’s decision to raise short-term rates in December 2015 signals confidence that at least one of the world’s economic engines is on solid footing.
Going forward, private equity can continue to benefit from healthy liquidity conditions with more capital going to successful GPs, including both existing funds that are growing in size and proven managers spinning out to create new funds. Particularly in a low-growth environment with abundant capital, GPs must be both disciplined buyers and resourceful creators of value to deliver attractive returns to investors.
