About Chris

Chris Johnson joined HarbourVest in 2009 and oversees the international income and informational tax compliance reporting for non-US HarbourVest entities, including oversight of non-US withholding tax exemption and reclaim applications for all HarbourVest entities. His responsibilities also include tax-related communications with existing investors and coordination of special purpose vehicle structuring for non-US secondary investments and direct co-investments. Additionally, he manages all tax team projects involving the execution of the Firm’s strategic technology and systems initiatives.

Chris joined the Firm from State Street Alternative Investments, where he was an assistant vice president of alternative investment tax services at the company. His prior experience also includes positions with BISYS Hedge Fund Services, Deloitte & Touche, and Arthur Andersen.

Chris received a BA in Business Administration with concentrations in both Accounting and Management Information Systems from Northeastern University in 2000.

 

 

Continuation solutions encompass a host of transaction types in which a GP secures interim liquidity and/or additional primary capital for their LPs in a strongly performing asset, or set of assets, that the GP will continue to own and control. Specifically, they include continuation funds, new funds created by GPs for the purpose of acquiring the asset(s) that continue to be managed by the same GP and capitalized by one or several secondary buyers, or equity recapitalizations involving a direct equity or structured equity investment into a portfolio company. These transactions can also include a parallel investment from the GP’s latest fund into that same pool of assets (a “cross-fund trade”).
